Protect Our Friends by Opallene Protect Our Friends by Opallene
Fluttershy protects a cat and dog from a rain shower. As a donating member of the ASPCA, I hoped to convey with this a sense of caring and responsibility for our most common domesticated animal friends (They need it in so many ways every day!). As a kid, I had a Smokey the Bear T-shirt that showed Smokey holding forest animals and said "Protect Our Friends" - which was a little bit of my inspiration. :)

This was designed for MightyFine's My Little Pony Fluttershy-themed contest.

This is a great drawing. However, it looks like you used a filter to texturize it? Perhaps with a default 'burlap' or 'canvas' texture? Or maybe you set your brush to use that texture when drawing with the blue?
I think that takes away from the otherwise beautiful image, and it would look much better without this fairly obvious digital filter.
If you really want a texture of some kind, I'd use a much larger, less 'repeating' one, rather than the defaults that come with the software, and perhaps make the texture extend a little into the 'background' so that the image doesn't look like it was 'cut out and pasted' quite so much as it otherwise might.

Thank you very much for the constructive review! I do admit myself that I was not extremely pleased with the results of the texture application. I set myself up for an artificial time crunch, which I need not have done... The harsh stop was deliberate, since it was created as a t-shirt graphic, but the texture choice admittedly wasn't too compatible with that approach. What I was looking for was a way to soften the line without introducing a blur. Perhaps I will revisit this image and look for a nicer way to acheive that effect. :)
